#ARTICLE1project is an urgent response to Congress’s failure to uphold Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution amid unchecked Executive Branch overreach.
Let's send Congress 500K letters this week
Congressional phone systems are overwhelmed and online 'web form' letters (while important) only have marginal impact. While social media is a critically important forum, let's go old-school and flood Congress with written demands that they fulfil their oath of office in upholding the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution.
#ARTICLE1project is a non-partisan movement of moderate, centrist Americans associated with any political party who are committed to upholding the core principles of the U.S. Constitution. Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution establishes the Congress as the primary lawmaking body, sets checks and balances, and outlines both powers and limits of the federal government. We stand for accountability, the rule of law, and a government rooted in checks and balances—ensuring that no branch operates without oversight and no leader is above the Constitution.
While individual supporters of #ARTICLE1project may have strong and varying opinions about specific policy objectives or spending priorities for our nation, we find common ground in these key principles:

-
Congressional Oath & Duty: Article VI, Clause 3 of the Constitution compels Congressional members to support the Constitution. The most current Congressional oath of office was codified in 1862 and upon taking office, all members of Congress swear a solemn oath to “…support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic...” This is not a ceremonial pledge—it is a binding commitment to uphold the rule of law and the principles of our constitutional republic.
-
The Role of Congressional Oversight: We respect and uphold the U.S. Constitution and believe that Congressional oversight is an essential function of governance—not a partisan tool, but a fundamental check on executive power. The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed this in McGrain v. Daugherty (1927), explicitly recognizing oversight as an implied power necessary for Congress to fulfill its legislative responsibilities.
-
Accountability & Checks on Executive Overreach: The Executive Branch’s recent power grab is deeply troubling, but Congress’s passive acquiescence is even more alarming. Any member of Congress who fails to rigorously exercise oversight of executive actions is engaging in a clear dereliction of duty—a betrayal of their oath and a direct abdication of their constitutional responsibility at outlined in Article 1.
-
Governance Through Constitutional Order: We acknowledge that policies and funding priorities evolve with each new Congress and Administration. However, such changes must adhere to regular order, ensuring compliance with the due process provisions of the Administrative Procedure Act of 1946 and adherence to the U.S. Constitution and existing U.S. laws. All actions of the Executive Branch must conform to these standards and be conducted with full transparency, robust checks and balances, and rigorous Congressional oversight.

To that end, supporters of #ARTICLE1project are committed to immediately engaging our Congressional representatives, reminding them of their oath of office and their constitutional duty to uphold and defend the U.S. Constitution.

#ARTICLE1project is a non-partisan initiative, and we recognize that its supporters may hold diverse and even opposing views on specific policy matters. To be clear, this movement does not seek to engage in the many policy debates that divide us—those discussions belong in other political forums. Instead, #ARTICLE1project is a place where Americans from across the political spectrum can find common ground and a shared commitment to preserving our constitutional republic that embraces democratic principles, upholding the Constitution through rigorous checks and balances, and ensuring unwavering adherence to the rule of law. If these principles resonate with you, we invite you to stand with us.
